A Chicago Knife Works Order Went Silent, and the Buyer Went to Chargeback
Chicago Knife Works has been the subject of repeated community complaints this year, and a fresh post on r/knives adds another data point that is worth reading as a timeline rather than a rant.
The account: on September 11 the buyer ordered a Joker Campero with expedited shipping, and was told it would arrive by September 27. He received the original order receipt and nothing else, no shipping confirmation, no tracking. On September 28 he emailed the company and got an automated reply promising contact within two business days. No human reply followed. With a trip two weeks away, he is now pursuing a chargeback and looking for the knife from another supplier. His conclusion, phrased bluntly in the post title, is not to use the company at all.
The structural detail is the part that generalises. The buyer says he has since learned Chicago Knife Works operates as a middleman: it either drop ships from a distributor or receives merchandise and reships it. That model is common and not inherently bad, but it puts an extra party between the customer and the inventory, and every link is a place where tracking information and delivery estimates can quietly become fiction. When a reshipper is short on stock, the customer keeps an order confirmation while nobody owns the shipment. The failure here is not the delay. It is the absence of communication: a promised two-business-day response that never arrived converts a slow order into a chargeback.
The context matters. Chicago Knife Works has already been covered twice this year in EDC communities, first over a Chapter 11 filing and again over a thread that told shoppers to stay away. A repeat complaint pattern one month later suggests the underlying problem has not been resolved, whatever the cause.
Verdict: if you order from a reshipper, use a payment method with a real chargeback window, screenshot the promised ship date, and set a personal deadline two weeks before you actually need the knife. The community's patience here is close to exhausted.
