BudgetBlades Just Legalised Member Deal Posts, and It Changes the Sub

KizerOctober 5, 2026Source: r/BudgetBlades

A rules update on r/BudgetBlades is the kind of administrative change that reshapes a community without anyone noticing immediately. The moderators consolidated their rules and made one significant addition: members may now post budget knife deals, including non-affiliate links. Direct sales, advertising, spam, giveaways and scalping remain banned, and the prohibition explicitly covers knife companies, dealers and makers.

The distinction the moderators are drawing is between a member sharing something they found and a business promoting its own inventory. That line is harder to police than it sounds. A deal post can be entirely genuine and still function as marketing, and the affiliate question is the obvious pressure point. Banning affiliate links while permitting plain links removes the financial incentive to post, which is the cleanest way to keep the practice community-driven.

The effect on the sub should be visible within weeks. Budget communities live and die on price discovery, and the subreddit already functioned as an informal deal feed through screenshots and comments. Formalising it creates a place where discounts can be posted, discussed and criticised, including by people who think the deal is not a deal. The first post under the new rules, flagging a Kizer Banish for $27, appeared within hours of the announcement, which tells you how much demand there was for a formal channel.

The risks are also obvious. Deal posts invite referral spam, and subreddits that allow them tend to drift toward whatever retailer pays the highest commission until the moderators claw back rules. The moderators appear to know this, which is why they framed the change as a proposal and asked for feedback. For members, the practical benefit is a cleaner feed of budget prices. For the community, the test is whether the rule survives its first attempt at abuse, and how quickly the moderators act when it does.
