CIVIVI's Estoc Is 4.1 Inches of Blade at 3.31 Ounces
Long blades and light knives rarely coexist. The CIVIVI Estoc is the exception worth arguing about: a 4.1-inch Nitro-X7 drop point on a frame that weighs 3.31 ounces in its green configuration, priced at $87. Open, the knife measures 9.13 inches; closed, 5.03 inches. This is a big folder that does not feel like a brick in the pocket.
The name comes from a centuries-old French fighting sword, a rod-like blade with a sharpened point and no edge, built to defeat armor. CIVIVI kept the proportions and dropped the concept: this Estoc has a conventional cutting edge, a drop point profile and a flipper tab shaped like a sword's crossguard. It is a marketing story, but a coherent one, and the resulting silhouette is genuinely unlike the rest of the catalog.
Blade stock is 0.13 inches with a hollow grind, which is how a four-inch blade stays this light and still slices cleanly behind the edge. A liner lock holds it open, caged ceramic ball bearings sit in the pivot, and the tip-up clip is reversible, so left-handed users only lose the lock side. The green version pairs black G10 with green canvas Micarta and runs 60 to 62 HRC; the silver one uses silver fiberglass fabric, adds 0.27 ounces, and is heat treated to 61 to 63 HRC for $99.70.
The obvious comparison is with the mid-size titanium framelocks that dominate the $90 to $110 bracket. Those knives are shorter, thicker and heavier. The Estoc instead reads like a folding kitchen knife with a pocket clip, which is precisely the argument for it: 4.1 inches of thin, hollow-ground blade cuts cardboard and food with far less effort than 3.2 inches of thick stock.
Verdict: buy it if you want real blade length in a light package and you accept that a 5-inch closed handle takes up a pocket. Skip it if you live somewhere with a three-inch carry limit, or you want a knife that disappears into a coin pocket, because the Estoc will not.
