Grand Seiko SBGA527: A 50-Piece Titanium Limited Edition Inspired by Two Famous Beaches

The brand's latest ultra-limited edition is the Reference SBGA527, exclusive to the Ala Moana Center and Kalakaua Avenue Ben Bridge Grand Seiko Boutiques in Honolulu, Hawaii — and unsurprisingly, it is just as beautiful as you would expect for its exotic purchase point.
The dial is the star, and this time the inspiration traveled farther than Japan. Grand Seiko's famous textured dials typically draw from the beauty of Japan's natural world, but for the SBGA527 the brand went further afield: the blue dial was inspired by the Pacific Ocean, specifically the intensely beautiful waves that lap against the white sands of Japan's Shirarahama Beach — considered the nation's finest — and Hawaii's famous Waikiki. The two beaches, separated by over 4,000 miles, share the same Pacific water, and the watch captures that connection in a medium blue dial with a calm, feathered texture similar to the pattern seen on Grand Seiko's Sōkō Frost. It is complemented by a smooth-gliding blued seconds hand courtesy of the Calibre 9R6 Spring Drive movement, giving the dial a serene vibe befitting its beachy inspiration.
The rest of the specs read like a classic modern everyday sports watch from Grand Seiko's Heritage Collection: a sharply finished 40mm 62GS case in High Intensity Titanium with a matching bracelet, 100 meters of water resistance, a box sapphire crystal, and a dial-side power reserve indicator. The 62GS case is one of Grand Seiko's most celebrated silhouettes, and in lightweight titanium it makes the SBGA527 a genuinely comfortable daily wearer despite the brand's typically immaculate finishing.
Compared with the flood of Grand Seiko regional exclusives, the SBGA527 is one of the better-looking limited editions in recent memory — and one of the more exclusive. It is limited to just 50 examples, available only in person at the Ben Bridge Grand Seiko Boutiques in Honolulu, and priced at $7,600.
