Three Mossy Oak Folders Land Under $15 and One Is $9.99
There is a price floor below which a folding knife stops being a knife and becomes a disposable, and Mossy Oak is testing where it sits. The brand's current lineup puts three locking folders under $15, each aimed at a different job: a small utility knife, a lightweight camo carry piece, and a four-inch outdoor blade.
The most interesting of the three is the $9.99 Mini Folding Pocket Knife. It carries a 2.5-inch drop-point blade in 3CR13 stainless with a matte stonewash finish and 2.8mm stock, black G10 scales with a finger groove, and a liner lock. The extras are what separate it from a gas-station knife: a bottle opener, a glass breaker, a cord cutter and a box cutter are all built into the frame, and it still weighs 3.5 ounces.
That weight is the tell. G10 and a steel frame at this price mean the Mini is heavier than the larger camo tactical folder in the same lineup, which is the sort of trade nobody advertises. You get a handle that feels like a tool and a blade that will dull on cardboard faster than D2 or 14C28N would, because 3CR13 is a low-carbon stainless chosen for corrosion resistance and cost rather than edge holding.
The other two knives split the remaining jobs cleanly. The camo folder trades the utility tools and the G10 for less weight in the pocket, which is the right answer for a knife that lives in shorts. The four-inch outdoor model gives you the most cutting length in the group and the handle to use it, at the cost of being the knife you notice in your pocket all day.
Verdict: the $9.99 Mini is the buy — it does box and bottle duty, survives being loaned out, and costs less than lunch. Skip the set if you cut cardboard daily, because a $35 folder in 14C28N will out-cut all three and need sharpening a third as often.
