Vosteed Raccoon Crossbar Lock 2.0: Nitro-V and a One-Piece Ball Roll Bar Upgrade the Flagship

If you have ever ordered from Vosteed, you have met the raccoon — the scrappy little mascot that shows up as a sticker in every box. The new 2.0 generation swaps in a Nitro-V blade, strengthens the crossbar mechanism with a one-piece Ball Roll Bar, and refines just about every contact point on the knife.

Start with the steel, because that is the change fans will notice first. The previous Raccoon Crossbar Lock ran 14C28N; the 2.0 moves to a 3.17-inch drop point in Sandvik Nitro-V, a steel that is close enough in personality to feel familiar but brings improved corrosion resistance and easier sharpening. Vosteed also widened the blade face slightly and added spine jimping, giving the cutter more bite and more control without changing the knife's compact character.

The lock is the engineering story. Where the earlier version used a two-piece crossbar, the 2.0 gets a one-piece Ball Roll Bar whose rolling contact reduces friction and removes a joining screw — fewer parts, smoother action, and a lower risk of failure under hard use. Around it, Vosteed repositioned the 6063 aluminum thumb studs for better leverage and reworked the pocket clip to accept thicker fabric while easing the pressure point it once left in hand.

The lineup arrives as six configurations across G10 and Micarta handle materials, all sharing the same 7.59-inch silhouette and 4.38-inch ergonomic handle, with G10 versions priced at $69 and Micarta at $69.99. That keeps the Raccoon 2.0 squarely in the value segment where it built its name, while the upgrades close most of the gap between it and pricier crossbar-lock competition.

Vosteed is also feeding the customization crowd this cycle with official handle scale kits for the platform, so owners can swap scales, springs, and hardware without buying a second knife. The Raccoon 2.0 is still the same friendly workhorse — just sharper, smoother, and harder to wear out.
