WE Knife Co. Gunwhale: The Armed Forces Collection's Heaviest Hitter Preps for Launch

WE KnifeSeptember 1, 2026Source: KnifeNews

WE Knife Co. has spent the summer rolling out its Armed Forces-Inspired Collection, a limited run of military-themed folders that share a martial aesthetic but differ in almost every other detail. The collection now runs to more than ten models, each capped at a low triple-digit production run. The latest to surface is the Gunwhale, and it arrives as arguably the most imposing piece in the lineup so far — a knife that looks less like a pocket tool and more like something a warship would issue.

The Gunwhale lands on the larger side of an already sizable family. Its 3.87-inch blade is nominally a drop point, but the details do the real talking: a massive fuller running down the spine, a compound grind, and a chunky spine treatment that reads as battlefield equipment rather than gentleman's folder. The military theme continues on the handle, where three oversized bolts anchor the show-side scale, runs of jimping trace the perimeter, and a sculpted titanium pocket clip handles the carry. Lockup comes from a frame lock wearing a steel interface cap, and the whole package closes out at a deliberate 5.47 ounces. Nobody expected a knife called Gunwhale to be a featherweight, and WE made sure it is not.

In context, the Gunwhale slots into a collection that has already produced the Hull and the Muster — pieces we have covered here before — and it shows how far WE is willing to push the theme. Where the Hull was a beefy statement folder and the Muster catered to fans of heavy knives, the Gunwhale leans into nautical aggression with its arctic-inspired camo options. Each of its three colorways is limited to 200 pieces, which puts it squarely in collectible territory rather than everyday-production volume.

The comparison that matters for buyers is not Gunwhale versus other WE knives, but Gunwhale versus the rest of this collection. If the military aesthetic is your lane and you want the biggest, heaviest, most aggressively detailed folder WE has produced under this theme, this is the one. If you prefer your EDC under five ounces, the collection's other models give you more pocket-friendly options. For fans of overbuilt folders with a story attached, the Gunwhale is the pick — but at 200 units per colorway, the decision window is short.

The Armed Forces Collection has been one of the more interesting limited programs of 2026, and the Gunwhale caps it with real character. Whether you collect WE exclusives or just appreciate a well-executed military design language, this is worth a look before the runs sell through.
