Benchmade's $1,200 Mini Adira Is Its Wildest Collaboration Yet

BenchmadeOctober 6, 2026Source: Gear Patrol

Benchmade runs a fairly predictable release calendar, which is exactly why the Mini Adira 18065BK-ABEL2 stands out. The knife is the latest step in the brand's rolling collaboration with Abel reels, and this time the canvas is artwork by the fishing painter Derek DeYoung. At $1,200 per knife it is one of the most expensive releases Benchmade has ever shipped, and scarcity did the rest: Gear Patrol reports it sold out extremely fast.

The price is the headline, but the construction is the reason the knife exists at all. Benchmade is using a premium blade steel with a finish and grind that match the artwork rather than fighting it, and the handle work is where the collaboration money actually goes. DeYoung's trout-and-water motifs are not a sticker package. They are the product, which is a real problem for anyone who wanted to use the thing.

That tension is the interesting part. Abel reels are functional luxury goods built for saltwater and rivers, and pairing a knife with that world makes sense on paper. But a $1,200 Benchmade with painterly finishes lands in a different category: collector object first, cutting tool second. Compare it to a standard Mini Adira or a Bugout at a tenth of the price and you are not buying better edge geometry, you are buying a numbered piece of art with a warranty.

Gear Patrol also notes a charitable component attached to the release, which softens the sticker shock slightly without changing the maths. If you missed it, the honest advice is not to chase the secondary market. Benchmade's limited collaborations usually reappear on resale sites at a markup, and the artwork is what you are paying for. If you want a hunting-capable Benchmade, the standard Adira line does the job. If you want the DeYoung piece, you wanted it before you read this.
