Bestech's $70 Duoz Is 1.92 Ounces of Damascus

BestechNovember 1, 2026Source: Bestech

Fifty-four and a half grams. That is 1.92 ounces for a 7.55-inch knife with a 3.34-inch blade, which makes the Bestech Duoz one of the lightest full-size folders anyone is selling this month, and it does it with burl wood and acid-etched Damascus rather than plastic and FRN.

The full spec: 191.8mm overall, 84.8mm blade at 2.4mm stock, 107mm closed, red burl wood handle, liner lock, flipper on ceramic ball bearings, 54.5 grams. Designer credit goes to Ostap Hel, who has quietly become one of the most prolific production designers in the industry. There is also an olive wood version at the same $69.90 and an OD green G10 version with a 14C28N blade and gold PVD finish at $47.90.

2.4mm stock is the reason for the weight, and it is also the reason the Duoz cuts. Thin stock behind the edge is what separates a knife that slices from one that splits, and on a 3.34-inch blade it produces a light, fast-feeling knife that disappears in a pocket. The trade is obvious: a 2.4mm Damascus blade is not a pry bar, and Damascus is a pattern-welded steel whose layers can show corrosion if you leave it wet.

Wood handles are the second trade. Burl is beautiful, warm in the hand and slightly slippery when wet, and it will move a fraction with humidity over years. Against the G10 version at $47.90 the wood model costs $22 more for the Damascus and the finish; against Bestech's own Duci at $199 you are giving up 20CV and a titanium frame for less than half the money and less than half the weight.

Verdict: the dress knife for someone who wears a suit and still wants a real blade, or the gift knife for a person who will never sharpen it. Skip it if you need a work knife, because a 1.92-ounce Damascus folder with wood scales is a beautiful object that should not be opening paint cans.
