Civivi's Zygon Puts a Top Crossbar Lock on Carbon-Covered G10

CIVIVIOctober 7, 2026Source: CIVIVI

Civivi's production catalog has quietly grown a mid-tier that sits between the brand's $50 workhorses and its premium Elite line, and the Zygon is the clearest example. The configuration listed as C25035B-DS1 combines gray G10 with a carbon fibre overlay, a thumb stud, and the top crossbar lock that the brand has been pushing across several models, at $99.70.

The lock is the interesting specification. A top crossbar moves the release to the spine rather than the side, so the finger that disengages it sits behind the blade's path rather than in front of it, and the knife can be closed without a finger crossing the edge. That is the same practical advantage that made axis-style locks popular, packaged in a Civivi-priced knife. Everything else on the Zygon is deliberately conventional: a G10 handle with a carbon layer for looks, a thumb-stud opener, and the family of variants that Civivi always ships, with sibling configurations priced at $79.70 and $82.30.

At $99.70 the comparison set is uncomfortable and worth naming. Kizer and Bestech both sell full titanium frames with premium steels near that figure on sale, and Civivi's own Elite Tessera line starts at $136.50 with more exotic materials. What the Zygon offers instead is a middle position: better materials than the budget Civivis, a modern lock, and enough visual interest that it does not read as a beater. The carbon overlay is a look rather than a structural benefit on a liner-lock-scale knife, and buyers should treat it as such.

The honest recommendation is that $80 to $100 is the range where shopping gets genuinely competitive, so decide what matters first. If the top crossbar lock is what you want, the Zygon is one of the cheaper ways to get it from a brand with consistent quality control. If you want maximum steel for the money, wait for a sale on the Zygon or look at the standard $79.70 version, which does the same job in plainer clothes.
