Kansept's Symétrix Uses Mirror-Image Geometry at $179.89

KanseptSeptember 27, 2026Source: Kansept Knives

Most folding knife designs are asymmetric by default: a broad handle on one end, a narrow blade on the other, and a pivot somewhere in between where the balance happens to land. Kansept's Symétrix is built the opposite way, with echoing mirrored lines running through both blade and handle, and the result is one of the better-handling small frame locks in the catalog.

The K2141A4 lists at $179.89: 6.79 inches overall, a 2.85-inch clip point in CPM S35VN at 0.118 inches thick, flat ground and stonewashed, a frame lock rated 58–60 HRC, and a handle in blue-purple anodized titanium with a swirl pattern. Weight is just 2.56 ounces — 72.5 grams. French knifemaker Alain André is credited with the design. The name derives from the French word symétrie with a suffix added, and Kansept's brief says the point of the symmetry is not visual flair but a centered, well-balanced grip for urban EDC.

The case for symmetry is practical. When blade and handle echo each other, the pivot sits closer to the center of the mass, so the knife does not feel like it is tipping forward in the hand during controlled cuts — a common complaint on smaller folders where the handle is much heavier than the blade. At 2.85 inches and 2.56 ounces, the Symétrix is small enough that this matters more than it would on a four-inch knife.

Compare it with the same brand's Ptarmigan K2055A4 at $199.89: the Ptarmigan gives you 0.27 more inches of blade and FatCarbon inlays for $20 more, but weighs 1.27 ounces more. Kansept also sells several S35VN Symétrix variants; the A4 is distinguished by the blue-purple swirl anodizing, which is a pattern rather than a solid color and will read differently depending on the light.

Verdict: a compact, lightweight titanium frame lock with a design rationale you can feel rather than just read. Buy it if you want a 2.5-ounce knife with S35VN and a distinctive finish; choose the Ptarmigan if you need the extra blade length and don't mind the weight.
