CPM 3V almost never shows up in a Chinese-made production folder, and that is the reason to look at the Kizer Sparrow V3628E2. This is a Smoky Mountain Knife Works exclusive in the "Brotherhood" colourway โ brown and silver aluminium โ with a 2.99-inch sheepsfoot blade in 3V at 0.12 inch stock.
The rest of the sheet: 6.98 inches overall, aluminium handle, liner lock, Vincent Rizzo design, made in China. Kizer lists the knife on its own site with the SMKW purchase link rather than a price, so what you pay is whatever SMKW has the exclusive listed at. That matters: an exclusive in a premium steel from a dealer channel is usually priced above the brand's standard production, not below it.
Why 3V is worth caring about: it is a Crucible powder metallurgy tool steel built for impact resistance, and in knife terms it is one of the toughest steels you can put in a blade at 58 to 60 HRC. It will take a beating that would chip M390 or S30V, it holds an edge better than 154CM, and it is only moderately corrosion resistant โ it will spot if you leave it wet. For a small sheepsfoot that gets used as a scraper, a box opener and a light pry, that is close to the ideal steel. For a knife that lives in a humid pocket and cuts fruit, it is not.
The sheepsfoot shape and the lock are where the value argument gets harder. A sheepsfoot with a straight edge is a genuinely useful working profile โ no belly to slip off a cut, a blunt tip that will not stab you through a pocket seam. But a 2.99-inch aluminium-handled liner lock is a $40 to $60 knife in most lineups, and the 3V blade is the only thing separating this from that pack. If the SMKW price lands near $80, the steel justifies it. If it lands near $120, you are paying for the exclusive more than the metallurgy.
Verdict: the most interesting Kizer of the week on materials alone, and the one I would want to see in hand before recommending a price. Buy it if you want 3V toughness in a small, light, non-scary package. Skip it if you need corrosion resistance or if the exclusive premium pushes it past what a 3V production knife should cost.
