Kizer's Chili Pepper Is a $45 Button Lock in Purple G10

KizerOctober 27, 2026Source: Kizer Knives

Forty-five dollars used to buy a liner lock and a bead blast. The Kizer Chili Pepper, model V3601C2, arrives with a button lock, a 154CM blade and a purple G10 handle at that exact price, which makes it one of the cheapest legitimate button-lock folders on the brand's own shelf.

The numbers: 7.13 inches overall, a 3.03-inch drop point in 154CM at 0.11 inch stock, a 4.09-inch G10 handle, tip-up clip and 3.13 ounces on the scale. Designer credit goes to Swaggs, the same hand behind several of Kizer's better-selling mid-size patterns. Deployment is a thumb stud on a bearing pivot, and the button lock handles closing without your thumb crossing the blade path.

A button lock at this price point is the story. Manufacturing a lock that has to work as both a detent and a release adds parts and tolerance to the process, and most brands reserve it for knives above sixty dollars. Kizer has been pushing it downward for a couple of years now, and the risk at $45 is not the lock design but the fit around it: a button that is gritty or stiff on arrival is the usual failure mode in this bracket. The rest of the build is conventional, which is fine โ€” 154CM at around 58 to 60 HRC gives you decent edge retention and good corrosion resistance, and G10 does not care about weather.

Inside Kizer's own lineup the natural cross-shop is the $42 Original V3605E3: same 154CM, same 0.11-inch stock, aluminium instead of G10, 2.61 ounces instead of 3.13, and a slightly shorter 2.98-inch blade. The Original is the lighter, more discreet carry; the Chili Pepper is half an inch longer, half an ounce heavier, and the purple handle is the entire aesthetic argument. Neither knife is the sensible choice if you want a slicer for cardboard all day โ€” both are 0.11 inch stock, which is thin enough to cut well and thin enough to feel flexible if you pry.

Verdict: if you want a fidget-friendly button lock under fifty dollars and you like the colour, the Chili Pepper is a straightforward buy. If weight matters more than the lock, the Original saves you both ounces and dollars. And if you need the knife to survive actual abuse rather than boxes and tape, save up โ€” 154CM at this hardness is not a pry bar.
