Kizer's Drop Bear 292 AirTi Hits 2.02 Ounces in M390
The Drop Bear has always been Kizer's answer to the Bugout: a thin, light, aluminum-handled folder for people who carry a knife every day and resent the weight. The 292 AirTi version pushes that brief to its logical end. The knife weighs 2.02 ounces, or 57.4 grams, and the handle is 7.9mm thick.
Getting there required two decisions. The first is the blade: 2.92 inches of M390, a powder-metallurgy stainless with high wear resistance and good corrosion behavior, ground from stock that is only 2.0mm thick. The second is the handle, hard-anodized aluminum with 3D CNC milling across the contoured surfaces, which removes material where it is not needed and leaves texture where your fingers land.
The trade-off of a 2.0mm blade is stiffness. A thin blade in a high-wear steel is a slicer, not a pry bar, and M390 at 2mm will flex if you lean on it. For cardboard, tape, rope, packaging and food, that geometry is a genuine advantage, because thin stock behind the edge cuts with less effort. For anything involving twisting or scraping, carry something else.
The lock is Kizer's Button Liner Lock, which has become the company's house mechanism. It keeps the show side clean and lets you close the knife without crossing the blade path, and on a knife this light the spring tension feels proportionate rather than stiff. Left-handed shooters should note that the standard AirTi is right-hand only, and the left-handed version costs the same $129 but ships in blue milled aluminum with a sunset PVD blade.
Against a Benchmade Bugout, the Drop Bear 292 AirTi is heavier by a fraction of an ounce but carries better steel for the money and a lock that many people prefer. Against the $149 Astur ZeroS it trades handle elegance for outright weight savings. Verdict: one of the better sub-3-inch ultralights at $129, provided you want a cutting tool and not a pocket pry bar.
