Kizer's Hyper Hides Its Clip Inside an Aluminum Handle

KizerOctober 24, 2026Source: Kizer Knives

Most knives have a clip screwed onto a handle. The Hyper mills the clip out of the handle instead, bending it from a cutout between two structural halves so there is no gap for a pocket seam to catch on. Kizer prices the Ki3632A1 at $111.30, and that one detail is why the knife exists.

The rest of the design follows the same logic. There is no liner inside the handle; the four aluminum parts press against each other and offset loads to form the structure, which is how Kizer gets away with a detachable, multi-color handle that you can recombine. Blade is S35VN, overall length lands in the mid-seven-inch range, and the shape is drawn from hypercar body lines and the two-tone scheme of a Maybach โ€” straight lines along the spine, one curve for the finger groove, a milled cutout in the flank like a rear spoiler.

Where it sits: the Hyper is $15.90 more than the titanium-framed Torngat at $95.40, and that comparison is uncomfortable for Kizer. The Torngat gives you a monolithic titanium frame lock and a simpler, stiffer structure. The Hyper gives you modular aluminum, a concealed clip, and a genuinely novel mechanical layout โ€” but aluminum will show wear that titanium shrugs off, and a four-part handle is more interfaces to keep tight. The Hyper is the engineering showcase; the Torngat is the knife you hand down.

Verdict: buy the Hyper for the idea. The internalized clip and the press-fit handle are the kind of detail that usually shows up at three times the price, and S35VN is the right steel for the job. Just go in knowing you are paying for cleverness as much as for cutting performance.

Ownership detail: a knife assembled from four aluminum parts is held together by more fasteners than a conventional frame lock, so check them after the first week of carry and then every few months. The payoff is that you can swap a single damaged section instead of retiring the whole handle, and the concealed clip genuinely does stop pocket-seam snags.
