Kizer's MiCrow Is a $60 Fixed Blade Built on a Wharncliffe

KizerNovember 1, 2026Source: Kizer Knives

Small fixed blades are having a moment, and most of them are drop points. The Kizer MiCrow takes the other road. Model 1139A2 pairs a wharncliffe blade in AEB-L with a vortex-pattern micarta handle, and at $59.98 it lands right where an experiment stops being expensive.

A wharncliffe on a fixed blade is a deliberate choice. The edge runs straight from heel to tip, so the knife pushes through material instead of slicing across it, and the tip sits low on the centre line where it can be aimed. That makes it excellent at opening clamshell packaging, cutting cord flush against a surface, and any task where you need the edge to go exactly where you point it. It is mediocre at skinning and useless for rocking cuts, which is why most hunting knives are not shaped like this.

AEB-L is the sensible steel here. It is a fine-grained Swedish stainless with modest wear resistance and excellent edge stability, so a thin grind holds up instead of folding, and it sharpens on a river rock if that is what you have. Kizer also points out that the spine throws sparks, which is the kind of detail that matters to the person who carries a fixed blade into the woods rather than a folder into a meeting.

The handle is where the MiCrow separates itself from the pack of skeletonized neck knives. Micarta gives you something to hold onto when your hands are wet, and the vortex pattern is a texture rather than a print, so it does not wear off. Compare it with an ESEE Izula, which is the reference small fixed blade at a similar price: the Izula is tougher and has a better sheath ecosystem, while the MiCrow is thinner behind the edge and slices better.

Verdict: buy it if you want a light fixed blade for boxes, cord and camp chores and you like a straight edge. Skip it if your real use is game processing or batoning, because a wharncliffe is the wrong tool for both.
