Klein Tools Rolls Out a Blacked-Out Holiday Collection at Lowe's
Tool brands have learned that a colorway can move units, and Lowe's and Klein Tools are leaning into that lesson with this year's BLACKOUT collection. Seven limited-edition tools, technically eight once the variations are counted, have been given an all-black or black-handled treatment for the holiday season.
The lineup covers more than a single product: a 2-in-1 utility knife with screwdriver, diagonal flush-cutting pliers, a multi-bit screwdriver and nutdriver, a folding pocket knife, wire strippers, another multi-bit screwdriver configuration, and a two-piece adjustable wrench set. The utility knife is the most interesting of the group because it overlaps with the EDC world. It is the same Klein Flickblade 2-in-1 utility knife that appeared recently in orange, now in black, with a quick-open mechanism, button lock, and a folding quarter-inch hex screwdriver bit holder. Readers noticed what appears to be an updated design featuring a button-lock bit holder, and at $20 it undercuts plenty of dedicated pocket tools.
The context is a familiar one for anyone who follows hand tools. Klein's 2-in-1 is a direct response to Milwaukee's 6-in-1 Fastback, which is itself being refreshed alongside the entire Fastback line in January. That means the Blackout lineup arrives at the front of a product cycle rather than the back, and buyers should weigh whether they want the current version at a discount or the revised model at full price in a couple of months.
The pliers are priced at $15 and carry a grayscale USA flag theme, which tells you the collection is aimed at buyers who treat a tool purchase as a small statement as much as a utility decision.
The utility knife deserves a closer look from EDC buyers specifically. A $20 tool that combines a replaceable utility blade, a quick-open mechanism, and a folding quarter-inch hex driver covers the tasks most people use a pocket knife for, and it does so with blades that cost pennies to replace instead of a full sharpening session on premium steel.
Limited editions like this usually sell through during the holiday window, so the value case is best judged now rather than in January.
