Kubey's Hamster Uses 4mm Stock and Ti Hardware

KubeyOctober 30, 2026Source: Kubey

Four millimetre blade stock is bushcraft territory, and the Kubey Hamster KU402G puts it behind a 3.46-inch tanto point in 14C28N. At $110 it is the most over-built knife in Kubey's current lineup, and the titanium hardware explains the price.

The numbers: 7.83 inches overall, 3.46-inch tanto at 4.0mm stock, 1.69 inches of blade width, satin finish, 14C28N at 60-62 HRC, two-tone black and blue G10 handle, liner lock, caged ceramic bearings, 152 grams. The hardware list is the interesting part: titanium backspacer, titanium clip, titanium pivot cap, titanium studs and titanium screws, all anodized blue.

The pivot runs on caged ceramic bearings, which on a knife this heavy is the difference between a flipper that snaps and one that feels like it is pushing through sand. Titanium hardware is not a cosmetic upgrade. Steel screws in a G10 handle will rust in a sweaty pocket and will eventually strip their heads; titanium does neither, and the weight saving over steel is real on a knife that already weighs 152 grams. At this price point, a full titanium hardware set is unusual — most $110 knives give you titanium on the clip and steel everywhere else.

Four millimetre stock plus 1.69 inches of blade width means the Hamster is a splitting tool as much as a slicer. The flat grind keeps it from being a wedge, but the geometry is honest: this is a knife for cutting through things rather than for filleting. 14C28N at 60-62 is tough enough to survive that use, and easy enough to sharpen that you will not resent it.

Verdict: buy it if you want a hard-use folder that will not loosen, and you do not mind the weight. Skip it if you carry in light trousers — 152 grams is nearly twice a CIVIVI Chronic for a similar blade length.
