Mean Green Machines: A Gen 2 Combat Troodon and Benchmade Adamas Arrive Together

MicrotechAugust 7, 2026Source: Reddit

Some NKD posts are about one knife. Others are about a theme. "Got the mean green machines today. Gen2 Combat Troodon and Benchmade Adamas" is firmly in the second category — a matching set of heavy hitters that landed in a single mail call, and the green-on-green theme is doing a lot of work.

The Gen 2 Combat Troodon is Microtech's flagship OTF at its most aggressive: a full-size automatic that fires out of the handle with the signature Microtech snick, built for hard use with a blade that means business. It's the knife that non-knife people ask about, and the Gen 2 refinements — better ergonomics, updated internals, and a more refined trigger — made an already great design better.

Alongside it, the Benchmade Adamas brings the fixed-blade energy to a folder. Known for its overbuilt AXIS-lock construction and 3V blade steel, the Adamas is the knife Benchmade designed to be abused — the kind of folder you stop worrying about the moment you start using it. In green, it matches the Troodon's vibe while occupying a completely different lane in the carry rotation.

Together, they're a portrait of the current enthusiast market: OTFs and overbuilt folders coexisting in the same collection, united by colorway. The community reaction is predictably split between "amazing setup" and "what did those cost," but everyone agrees the green-on-green theme is executed perfectly.

The Verdict: A Gen 2 Combat Troodon plus an Adamas in matching green is a statement NKD. Two legends of their respective categories, one excellent photo — r/knifeclub approves.

There's also a practical thread running through the post. Matching colorways aside, the Troodon and Adamas cover two very different jobs: the OTF for instant, one-handed deployment and the Adamas for hard-use work where the lockup and blade steel take priority. Having both in the rotation means the owner is covered for everything from a quick box cut to a weekend of camp chores — and getting to look at a coordinated pair while doing it.
