Peak Design's Kickstand Battery Adds 5,000mAh to MagSafe
The accessory category for phones is full of things that do one job. Peak Design's Kickstand Travel Battery does two, and does them without adding a case: it is a 5,000mAh MagSafe battery that also unfolds into a stand for portrait or landscape viewing. It adds 0.4 inches of depth, and it comes off when you do not need it.
The materials are what separate it from the $20 slab on Amazon. The body is machined aluminum, wrapped in laminated Clarino, a synthetic microfiber leather that will not scuff the back of a phone. It ships in Black and Moon, a champagne-silver finish, both otherwise identical. MagSafe alignment means it snaps on and charges without a cable, and the kickstand folds flush when it is not deployed.
The port arrangement is the practical detail most packs miss. A single USB-C port both charges the internal battery and acts as a passthrough output, so you can top up the pack and a second device at the same time. At 5,000mAh the capacity is roughly one extra charge for a modern iPhone, which is the honest number: enough to get through a long travel day, not enough to run a laptop.
Compare it with the alternatives. A dedicated magnetic battery from Anker or Belkin costs less and carries more capacity; a folding stand such as a Moft or an ESR costs a third as much and carries no battery. Peak Design's pitch is the combination in one aluminum object that matches a travel kit rather than fighting it, and that pitch only holds if you value both functions at once.
Verdict: buy it if you travel with a MagSafe iPhone and you have been carrying a battery and a stand separately, because consolidating two items into one is worth the premium. Skip it if you mostly charge at a desk, where a cable and a cheap stand will do the same job for a fraction of the price.
