Snoopy Stays Small on the New Peanuts x Q Timex Chronograph
Character watches fail when the character eats the dial. The new Peanuts x Q Timex Chronograph handles that by confining Snoopy to the 9 o'clock subdial, which leaves the rest of the watch doing conventional watch things. The Gadgeteer's September 30 write-up puts the price at $259.
What is left of the dial is a green field with applied three-dimensional indices, luminous hands, and a date window between 4 and 5 o'clock, surrounded by a green aluminum tachymeter top ring. The case is silver-tone stainless steel and the strap is brown leather. Snoopy is present and identifiable without becoming the entire design.
The movement is a real quartz chronograph rather than a decorated three-hander, so the pushers start, stop, and reset elapsed time and the tachymeter scale can be used to calculate average speed over a known distance. Quartz also means no winding ritual when the watch sits for a few days. Timex lists an SR927SW battery but does not publish an expected life, so there is no honest number to promise there.
That combination is why this works better than most collaborations. The Q Timex retro case gives the watch its own identity, the chronograph gives the subdials a purpose, and Snoopy is a detail rather than the entire premise.
At $259 it is more than a novelty purchase, and it is one of the few character watches that still looks like a watch.
There is also a size question that the coverage leaves open. Q Timex cases are known for wearing larger than their dimensions suggest thanks to the cushion profile and the domed crystal, and the tachymeter ring adds visual width. Anyone used to a 36-millimeter field watch should check the case measurement before ordering. The green dial and brown strap combination is flattering on most wrists, but the case is the part that decides whether this is a daily wearer or a drawer watch.
