Timex's $349 Pan Am Waterbury GMT Revives the Jet Age

TimexOctober 12, 2026Source: Gear Patrol

Timex's collaboration with Pan Am has already produced a handful of watches, and the Waterbury GMT is the most functional of them. The pitch is simple: a 41mm stainless steel case on a matching bracelet, a GMT layout aimed at travelers, and a price that lands well below most Swiss-branded travel watches.

Mechanically this is a quartz watch, which is the trade-off that keeps the price at $349. Quartz means you give up the sweep of an automatic and the pride of a mechanical movement, but you also get accuracy measured in seconds per month, a battery you replace rather than a service interval you pay for, and a lighter watch on the wrist. Water resistance is rated to 50 meters, which covers hand washing, rain and an accidental splash — not swimming.

The 41mm case size is the part most buyers should think hardest about. It has become the default for travel watches because it reads clearly and suits a wide range of wrists, but it is genuinely large on a slim wrist and it will not slip under a tight shirt cuff the way a 38mm dress watch does. The steel bracelet sharpens the jet-age look. If you prefer leather, budget for a strap swap.

The comparison that matters is against Timex's own catalog. The brand has been steadily pushing its Waterbury line upward in price and finishing while keeping quartz movements, and the Pan Am GMT sits at the top of that ladder. Against a Seiko with a mechanical GMT, the Timex wins on price and loses on movement. Against a no-name fashion GMT, it wins on both, because Pan Am branding comes with an actual historical airline behind it rather than a font choice.

Verdict: at $349 the Waterbury GMT is a value pick for the specific buyer who wants a travel watch with a story and does not care about mechanical movements. If you want the movement, spend more elsewhere. If you want the look, this delivers it at a price that leaves room for a second strap.

Full specs and availability are listed on Timex's product page for the Pan Am collaboration.
