WE Knife's $540 Headbanger Runs Vanax at 3.8 Inches

WE KnifeOctober 28, 2026Source: WE Knife

Vanax is the steel you buy when corrosion resistance and edge stability both matter and you have stopped caring what the knife costs. The WE Knife Headbanger WE25096A-3 runs it at 3.8 inches with a 0.16 inch spine, and the price is $540.

The sheet: 8.73 inches overall, 3.8-inch clip point in Vanax at 59-61 HRC, 0.16 inch blade stock, compound grind with a hollow-ground primary bevel and a flat-ground tip, hand-polished satin finish, 4.93 inches closed, 5.22 ounces. The handle is 6AL4V titanium at 0.55 inch thick, polished gray with an etched pattern, matching titanium backspacer and tip-up clip, caged ceramic bearings, and a bolster lock. Designer is Brandon Beecher, and this is a Blade HQ exclusive SKU.

Vanax is a powder-metallurgy stainless built around nitrogen rather than carbon, which is why it does not rust the way even MagnaCut will if you leave it damp in a pocket. It also holds a fine edge at high hardness without going brittle. The cost is sharpening: Vanax wants diamond or CBN, and it will punish anyone who tries to bring it back on an Arkansas stone. A 3.8-inch blade with a compound grind compounds that โ€” the hollow primary bevel thins the geometry for slicing while the flat tip stays thick, so you get a knife that cuts soft material aggressively and still has a tip that survives being dropped point-first.

The bolster lock is the underrated part. It puts the release on the front of the handle instead of the side, which means the knife closes with a pinch rather than a thumb push, and it does not put lock-bar tension through the same slab your fingers wrap around. On a 5.22-ounce knife, that is a materially nicer close than a frame lock.

Verdict: at $540 this is a collector's working knife โ€” the kind of thing you buy because you want Vanax and a bolster lock in a titanium frame, not because you need a better cutter than a $300 MagnaCut folder. If that description fits, the Headbanger is one of the few knives on the market that ticks all four boxes at once.
