WE Knife's Foreshock and Pending Push Titanium Past $400
WE Knife Co.'s latest batch is a study in how the premium Chinese production segment prices steel and finish. Four new configurations landed at once: the Foreshock in 3.24 inches at $410 and $465, and the Pending in 3.29 and 3.75 inches from $350 to $387. All of them are Bohler M390 in titanium handles with carbon fiber or composite resin inlays.
What differentiates the two models is finish, not steel. The $465 Foreshock pairs polished gray titanium with a carbon fiber inlay and a polished gray blade, while the $410 version uses hand-rubbed satin on both blade and a composite resin inlay. That $55 gap buys you polishing hours, not performance โ and in this market, that is a legitimate thing to charge for. WE's finishing is the best in the Chinese production tier and arguably better than anything at twice the price from a European brand.
The Pending is the more interesting shape for users. It comes in two blade lengths, 3.29 and 3.75 inches, which makes it one of the few models where WE offers a genuine size choice rather than a material choice. The 3.75-inch version at $350 is the value pick of the group: more edge than the Foreshock, the same steel, and $60 cheaper than the smaller Foreshock's fancier finish.
M390 across the board is WE's standard practice, and it remains a reasonable one. The steel is well understood, holds an edge, and is stainless enough for daily carry. At $350 to $465 you are not paying for exotic metallurgy; you are paying for machining tolerances, action, and the fit of inlays that do not develop rattles.
Compared to a Benchmade at the same price, WE gives you better materials and finishing with a weaker warranty story and no American service network. Compared to Kizer's premium line, WE is consistently a step up in finish and a step up in price. Compared to a Chris Reeve or a Hinderer, you are still in a different universe of hand work and resale value.
Verdict: the 3.75-inch Pending at $350 is the smart buy in this release; the $465 Foreshock is for people who buy finish as much as they buy knives.
