WE Knife's Headbanger Exclusive Runs $445 to $540 in Vanax

WE KnifeSeptember 27, 2026Source: WE Knife

Vanax is the steel most people never handle, and WE Knife's Blade HQ exclusive Headbanger is the least expensive way to own it in a production folding knife. Three configurations are listed: WE25096A-1 at $445, WE25096A-2 at $494 and WE25096A-3 at $540.

All three share the same core frame: 8.73 inches overall, a 3.8-inch clip point at a substantial 0.16 inches thick, a closed length of 4.93 inches, a compound grind with a hollow-ground primary bevel and a flat-ground tip, a caged ceramic ball bearing pivot, tip-up left- or right-side carry, and a bolster lock. Designer credit goes to Brandon Beecher. The differences are in finish and weight, not geometry.

Vanax is the story. It is a nitrogen-alloyed powdered steel with corrosion resistance that approaches LC200N while holding an edge far better than any conventional stainless โ€” for years it was effectively unavailable to production knives because it was hard to source and harder to machine. WE lists it at 58โ€“60 HRC on the polished version and 59โ€“61 on the satin versions. At 0.16 inches thick behind a 3.8-inch blade, this is a heavy-use geometry: the tip is reinforced, the primary edge is thin, and it is designed for someone who actually cuts things rather than opening mail.

The three versions differ meaningfully. The A-2 at $494 is polished gray titanium with a black etching pattern and weighs 5.22 ounces. The A-3 at $540 uses hand-polished satin over polished gray titanium with an etching pattern, also 5.22 ounces. The A-1 at $445 pairs a hand-rubbed satin blade with a black and copper 6AL4V titanium handle with a copper back spacer, and weighs 6.67 ounces โ€” over an ounce and a half more, because copper is heavy. That is a $95 premium for the copper-inlay version, and it is the one with the most distinct look.

Against the wider market, $445 to $540 puts the Headbanger in the same tier as mid-size Sebenza and Hinderer models. The case for it is Vanax, a bolster lock, US-exclusive availability and 4mm stock; the case against is that you can buy two excellent Vanax-free titanium folders โ€” or the Vosteed Nymble in ELMAX at $299 โ€” for the same money.

Verdict: a genuine steel showcase rather than a value play. Buy the A-1 if you want the copper and don't mind 6.67 ounces, the A-2 if you want the cleanest finish per dollar, and the A-3 only if hand-polished satin is a requirement.
