CPM MagnaCut at 60-62 HRC in a 72-gram titanium frame is about as close to a consensus premium EDC spec as the industry has produced, and WE Knife's Tiercel delivers it for $260. The number that matters is the weight: 2.54 ounces on a knife with a 3.24-inch blade.
Full specs: 7.42 inches overall, 3.24-inch wharncliffe in CPM MagnaCut at 0.1 inch stock, flat grind, black stonewash. The handle is 6AL4V titanium at 0.46 inch thick with a blue and purple finish carrying a pink and blue topo pattern, a black titanium backspacer, and a right-hand tip-up titanium clip. Frame lock, caged ceramic ball bearing pivot, flipper plus thumb hole for deployment.
Two things make this knife unusual. First, MagnaCut: it is the steel that finally balanced corrosion resistance, toughness and edge retention in one stainless, and at 60-62 HRC with a flat grind and thin 0.1-inch stock, the Tiercel's blade is going to slice rather than wedge. Second, the wharncliffe with a thumb hole on a frame lock gives you two very different openings โ a fast flipper and a controlled reverse flick โ without a second mechanism in the handle.
Against the $350 Suisei, the Tiercel saves $90 and gives up the carbon inlay, the nested liner lock and the reverse tanto. It gains MagnaCut, 28.5 grams of weight, and a blade shape that is easier to sharpen along a straight edge. Against WE's own $217 Elementum, the Tiercel costs $42 more for a larger blade, a better steel and the topo finish. The Tiercel is the most performance-focused knife in WE's mid-premium tier right now.
Verdict: the WE Knife to buy if you want one premium EDC folder and plan to use it. MagnaCut, titanium, 72 grams and a frame lock at $260 is a fair price in 2026, and the wharncliffe geometry does the work that tanto tips only advertise.
