WE Knife's Vision R2 Brings the Superlock Back for $310
Lock design is the least glamorous and most consequential part of a folding knife. A new generation of the WE Knife Vision, called the Vision R2 and priced at $310, is interesting less for its blade steel than for the lock it is built around: the company's Superlock, paired here with a thumb-hole opener and a 3.54-inch blade.
Ambidextrous lock mechanisms have become the defining trend of the last few years, and for good reason. Crossbar-style locks made left-handed carry a solved problem after decades of right-handed assumptions, and they are also the most fidget-friendly mechanisms on the market. A design like the Superlock is WE's answer to that demand: a mechanism that does not care which hand opens the knife and does not put a thumb stud or flipper tab where a pocket or a hand will find it.
The thumb hole is the other half of the argument. It is the least obtrusive opening method there is, which matters on a knife this size, and it is why the Vision R2 reads as a working tool rather than a showpiece. A 3.54-inch blade puts it at the top of the daily-carry range and firmly inside the outdoor-companion range, and titanium handles keep the weight honest for a knife that long.
Two versions sit at the same $310 price, one with a black and satin titanium handle and a black stonewashed blade, one with a flamed titanium handle. That is a straight aesthetic decision rather than a performance one, and it is a fair way to structure a line.
Verdict: at $310, the Vision R2 competes with American-made crossbar designs and beats most of them on materials. If you want an ambidextrous titanium folder with a genuinely usable blade length, this belongs on the short list.
