BladeHQ's Blade West Blitz Showed Off the Quarter's New Releases

BladeHQOctober 14, 2026Source: Knife Magazine

Blade Show West has a different rhythm than its Atlanta sibling. The spring show is where the year's biggest releases land, while the western edition tends to lean culinary and quiet, arriving in a quarter that is not exactly famous for new model launches. That makes a booth walk like BladeHQ's Blitz more valuable than usual, since it is one of the few systematic looks at what is actually shipping before the holiday buying season.

The Blitz format is straightforward: a camera moves through the booth and the products get described in sequence, with the emphasis on what is available rather than what might be announced. For buyers, that distinction matters. Announcement coverage is easy to find and frequently describes knives that slip by months. A walkthrough of in-hand production stock is closer to a buying guide, especially for anyone trying to plan purchases during the holidays rather than reacting to hype.

What the format cannot do is compare. A booth walk shows a knife; it does not line it up against the competitor a hundred dollars cheaper with a similar steel and a better lock. That work falls to the viewer, which is why the practical approach is to note the models that match your existing preferences for size, lock, and deployment, then research those individually before committing.

Blade West's culinary bias is also worth remembering. If you came looking for a hard-use tactical folder or a hunting fixed blade, the western show's floor is less likely to be where it debuts. The spring show remains the better calendar marker for that category.

One habit worth adopting from the show floor is asking exhibitors what is actually shipping this month versus what is scheduled for later. The answer separates the knives you can buy now at a stable price from the ones that will spend months in pre-order limbo, and it is the single most useful question a buyer can ask at any knife show.

For a Q4 shopping list, though, the Blitz is a useful starting point: watch the walkthrough, shortlist, and verify pricing before you buy.
