Leatherman's $75 Garage Adapter Sold Out in Hours
Leatherman's Garage line exists to let the Portland brand experiment in small batches, and Batch #009 produced the most interesting piece in the program so far: the Adapter, a 3D-printed titanium ratcheting multi-tool that launched at $75 and sold out within hours. The product page now takes email sign-ups for restocks, which is the strongest available signal that this is not a one-run experiment.
The core trick is a three-way ratchet โ forward, reverse, or locked โ so you can drive screws without resetting your grip on every turn. The body is 3D-printed titanium over a stainless steel frame, which is how Leatherman kept a tool this dense this light, and it folds three ways to match the job: collapsed for tight-space cranking and pocket carry, bent to 90 degrees for corner work, or flat for reach. Open it stretches to 7.25 inches and folded it disappears at 1.19 inches wide.
The handle is the real design idea. It is 30% glass-filled nylon capped with a threaded metal lid, and it works as a modular storage cache. Inside you get Torx #6 and #8, two Phillips drivers, an eyeglass screwdriver, a D1 ballpoint pen cartridge that slots into the end of the ratchet, and two T-shank attachments at the pivot โ a wood saw and a double-cut file. That makes it less a standalone multitool than a complement to one: a place to keep the bits and blades your Wave or Skeletool does not have room for.
Two caveats matter. Garage releases do not carry Leatherman's standard 25-year warranty โ the company covers issues with a repair attempt or store credit instead of replacement. And because the first run sold out, any listing well above $75 is a reseller markup rather than a Leatherman price. The official notify list is the only channel worth watching for a restock.
If you already carry a Leatherman, this is a genuinely useful accessory rather than a duplicate. If you do not, buy the main tool first. And for the knife side of the kit, the Kizer and WE Knife lineups cover the one thing a multitool blade never does well.
