Pro-Tech's Godfather Is a 154CM Automatic With a Size Problem

Pro-TechNovember 4, 2026Source: KnifeInformer

Automatics are usually either small and jewel-like or large and theatrical. The Pro-Tech Godfather is firmly in the second camp: a long, single-edge stiletto blade in 154CM with a false edge along the spine, a neutral aluminum handle, and an action that fires with enough authority that the knife feels bigger than its dimensions.

The blade is the reason to look at it. 154CM is an older powder-metallurgy stainless, and on a stiletto profile it is ground extremely thin, which makes the Godfather stabby in a way that most modern EDC blades are deliberately not. The specimen in the review came from Blade Show West with what the box calls a blasted blade finish, and the reviewer notes he could not confirm whether that is a coating or a surface treatment — a small reminder that show-exclusive finishes often ship without documentation.

The handle is where the knife earns its keep. Aluminum keeps the weight down for a knife of this length, and the neutral shape fits a hand without forcing a grip. The finish, though, is soft: the blue handle in the review has already picked up snail trails from carry, which is normal for anodized aluminum and worth knowing before you pay automatic-knife money. One opening during the demonstration also failed to lock, a single data point that argues for checking your own sample thoroughly.

Compared with the rest of the automatic market, the Godfather sits above the polymer-handled workhorses and below the custom-grade pieces. A Boker Kalashnikov or a Kershaw Launch will do the same job for much less and will not care about scratches; a Microtech will cost more and bring its own mythology. The Godfather's appeal is the silhouette: it is a switchblade that looks like a switchblade.

Verdict: buy it if you want a large, hard-firing automatic with a classic stiletto profile and you accept anodized aluminum will show wear. Skip it if you need a knife for daily chores, because a 154CM stiletto is a poor box opener and an excellent conversation piece.
