Timex Puts Bugs Bunny on an Automatic M79, and It Is Not a Mall Watch

TimexOctober 3, 2026Source: Gear Patrol

Timex has spent two years milking Snoopy. Peanuts turned 75 in 2025 and the brand kept the party going into 2026 with repeated Peanuts references. The newest playful release goes further back and picks a different animated icon entirely: Bugs Bunny, on the dial of an automatic M79.

The details are what make this more than licensed merch. For this edition Timex tapped the M79, launched in 2020 as the automatic version of the Q Timex 1979 Reissue. That means a 40 mm stainless steel case around a Miyota 8205 movement with a 40-hour power reserve, visible through an exhibition caseback with Looney Tunes and Timex co-branding printed on the crystal. Bugs lounges at the bottom of the black dial eating a carrot, with his signature and 1940, the year he was created, beneath him. A larger carrot serves as the seconds hand, which is the sort of detail that either sells the watch or kills it.

Specification-wise it is a dressy-sporty automatic rather than a tool watch. Water resistance is 50 m, so swimming is out. Hour markers are round, triangle and baton, lumed along with the hands, with a day-date window at 3 o'clock. The 60-minute rotating bezel matches the dial in black, and a 1970s-style domed acrylic crystal sits on top. Acrylic scratches more easily than sapphire and can be polished back, which is a reasonable trade at this price point. The stainless steel bracelet has been revised with single flat links that flow into the angular case more smoothly than previous M79 versions. Retailers have it listed already, with End Clothing showing $405 in the US.

The comparison is against the Snoopy references. Those skew playful and, in the secondary market, occasionally speculative. The Bugs Bunny M79 is a nicer watch underneath the cartoon: an automatic movement, a proper bracelet and a case that takes a strap well. Against a plain M79 you are paying for the dial art. That is a fair thing to pay for if the character means something to you.

Verdict: buy it as an automatic fun watch with real hardware behind the gimmick. Skip it if acrylic crystals, 50 m water resistance, or cartoon carrots bother you, because all three are non-negotiable here.
