Timex's $229 IRONMAN Adrenaline Hides Its Digital Display

TimexSeptember 27, 2026Source: The Gadgeteer

Most sports watches have converged on the same answer: more sensors, more connectivity, another charging cable. The Timex IRONMAN Adrenaline goes the other way, combining analog hands with a digital display that you can switch off โ€” and it costs $229, well above a conventional digital IRONMAN.

The defining feature is simple. Timex says holding the pusher at the 4 o'clock position for four to five seconds turns off the negative digital display, leaving only the analog hands visible; you can turn it back on when you need the extra functions. That gives the watch two distinct looks, one for training and one for the rest of the day. The feature set behind the display is straightforward: a stopwatch with 50-lap memory, a countdown timer, a daily alarm, a second time zone, and INDIGLO illumination with luminous hands under a mineral crystal.

The size is the part buyers should check carefully. The resin case measures 46.5mm across, 52mm lug-to-lug and 15mm thick โ€” that is a substantial watch, and Timex's own sizing guide puts cases above 42mm in large-wrist territory. It weighs 56.73 grams, so it wears lighter than the dimensions suggest, and the supplied band fits wrists from about 150 to 205mm. Water resistance is rated to 100m, which Timex describes as suitable for swimming, snorkeling and surfing but not scuba. One practical warning from the manufacturer: don't operate the buttons underwater if you want to keep that rating.

There are real omissions. The published feature list and manual show no interval timer and no vibration alarm, so the alerts are audible rather than silent. If your training involves structured intervals or you need a discreet wrist buzz in a meeting, this is the wrong watch.

Verdict: the Adrenaline is for the person stuck between categories โ€” a basic digital sports watch looks too utilitarian, a fitness smartwatch brings apps and charging they don't want. What you get is a lap timer, second time zone, 100m water resistance and analog hands, with no notifications and no recharge. Buy it for that combination; buy elsewhere if you want interval training or silent alerts. Timex carries no affiliate link in this article.

Verify case size and band fit against your wrist before ordering.
