Vosteed's Zodiac Patches Turn the Raccoon into a Collectible
Knife brands have been selling apparel and accessories for years, and most of it is a logo on a t-shirt. Vosteed's V-Patch collection is a slightly stranger and more interesting play: PVC patches tied to the zodiac, built around the raccoon mascot that appears on the company's packaging and in its product names.
The first two are Scorpio, model X0191, and Libra, model X0190, both $14.99 and both made of PVC rather than embroidered fabric. That matters for durability, since a PVC patch does not fray, does not absorb water, and holds fine detail that embroidery cannot reproduce. The trade-off is stiffness: a PVC patch sits flat and does not conform to a curved surface the way fabric does.
The concept comes from Vosteed's own narrative, in which a raccoon traveler moves between strange little worlds, tasting snacks and collecting patches. Extending that into zodiac signs is a merchandising decision, but it is a coherent one, and it gives the brand a hook that is not another drop of a knife in a new color.
Whether patches sell depends on whether the community wants to be a fan club rather than a customer base. Benchmade, Spyderco and Microtech all have stickers and hats; few have lore. Vosteed is betting that the raccoon is memorable enough to carry merchandise, and the fact that the company names products after the character suggests it is committed to the bit.
Verdict: $14.99 is a reasonable price for a PVC patch and a low-risk way to support a brand you like. It is not gear in any functional sense, so buy it because you want it on a backpack, not because you need it.
